When Should I Remove My Tree?

Trees are notable editions to anyone’s property. They provide shading and give homes to a wide assortment of wildlife. It is hard to decide when to part with your tree. However, some tell-tale signs give you an indication.

  • If your tree looks infected, it might be time to take it out. You’ll want to look for weird fungi or discoloration on the branches. Any deep splits in the tree’s bark is another indication. Check for pests as well. If they’ve invaded your tree, it might be time to take it down.

  • If your tree stopped growing or isn’t growing well, it could be dying. Check out how it’s looking compared to the trees surrounding it. If it’s not as vibrant, has bad leaf cover, or you see large, dead branches, it might be time to remove the tree - especially if more than 50 percent of the tree is dead or damaged. You don’t want branches falling and harming someone.
  •
  • If your tree is too close to the house, it could grow into the house’s foundation and damage your living space. This is an obvious no-go and a great reason to remove a tree – or at least prune it to protect your home. In general, trees should be about 20 feet away from a building.

If you’re not sure if it’s time to remove your tree or give it some TLC, we can come out, and our certified arborist will help you make that determination.
